Zanzibar je parádní ostrov v indickém oceánu. Společně s ostrovy Pemba a Mafia tvoří Zanzibarské souostroví, které je celé součástí Tanzanie. Ostrov je kopcovitý, přibližně 85 km dlouhý ze severu na jih a 30 km široký ze západu na východ. Má rozlohu 1666 km². Nachází se ve vzdálenosti 59 km jižně od ostrova Pemba.
Ostrov je obklopen menšími ostrovy a ostrůvky, z nichž dva největší Tumbatu a Uzi jsou obydlené. Další menší ostrovy jsou Bawe, Chapwani, Changuu, Chumbe, Kizingo, Kwale, Latham, Mautani, Miwi, Mnemba, Mwana wa Mwana, Nianembe, Popo, Pungume a Ukanga. Určitě stojí za to tento exotický ostrov navštívit a to nejen proto, že se tady narodil a jako malý žil, Farrokh Bulsara – tedy vlastně – „Fredie Mercury“ …. je tady toho mnohem více a mimo jiné i velmi zajímavá historie. Stále krásně čisté a teplé moře, bílé pláže a dobré jídlo, jsou již jen jakýmsi bonusem navíc ….
Zanzibar is a wonderful island in the Indian Ocean. Together with the islands of Pemba and Mafia, they form the Zanzibar archipelago, which is entirely part of Tanzania. The island is hilly, approximately 85 km long from north to south and 30 km wide from west to east. It has an area of 1666 km². It is located at a distance of 59 km south of Pemba Island.
